Free NWEA MAP Growth practice test for KindergartenMath K-2 and Reading K-2

Kindergarten children sit the Math K-2 and Reading K-2 tests, usually on a tablet or computer with headphones. Every question is read aloud, and most answers are pictures to tap, so your child does not need to read yet. Math covers counting to 100, comparing groups, adding and taking away within 10, longer and shorter, sorting, and naming flat and solid shapes. Reading covers rhyming words and first sounds, letters, words and sentences, a few short words to read, and short stories, poems and nonfiction texts that are read aloud, with questions about who, what and where. A few questions in each go above Kindergarten.

Tips

Getting ready for Kindergarten

  • Turn the sound on and sit beside your child for the first few questions, as a teacher would.
  • Show your child the speaker beside an answer: tapping it says the answer again.
  • Count out loud together at home: touch each thing once as you count it.
  • Play rhyming games in the car: cat, hat, bat. What else rhymes?
  • Some questions ask your child to read a word alone. Let them try: there is no clock.
