MAP Growth practiceGrade 1
Free NWEA MAP Growth practice test for Grade 1Math K-2 and Reading K-2
Grade 1 children sit the Math K-2 and Reading K-2 tests. Questions are read aloud, as on the real test. Math covers counting to 120, tens and ones, adding and subtracting within 20, the equal sign, telling time to the hour and half hour, measuring with paper clips or cubes, and putting shapes together. Reading covers sounds and syllables, reading words with sh, ch, blends and a silent e, sight words, capitals and end marks, spelling, and stories, poems and nonfiction texts. Some texts are read aloud and some your child reads alone, as MAP does from Grade 1. A few questions go above Grade 1.

Tips
Getting ready for Grade 1
- Practice the facts to 10 until they come quickly: 7 + 3, 10 − 4.
- For a story problem, picture the story first: are things being added or taken away?
- When a text is read aloud, your child can tap "Hear the story" to hear it again.
- For a word to read, sound out every letter, then blend the sounds.
- Read together every day: ask who the story was about and what happened last.
