Free NWEA MAP Growth practice test for Grade 8Math 6+, Reading 6+ and Language 2+

Grade 8 children sit Math 6+ and Reading 6+, and Language 2+ where the school gives it. Math covers linear functions and slope, pairs of equations, exponents, square roots and irrational numbers, the Pythagorean theorem, transformations and similar triangles, the volume of cylinders, cones and spheres, and scatter plots and two-way tables. Reading asks whether an author's reasons really support a claim, how two texts on one topic differ, and what a word's tone adds, across stories, poems, plays, speeches and essays. Language adds verbals, active and passive voice, the mood of a verb, ellipses, and when to quote a source. A few math questions go beyond Grade 8.

Tips

Getting ready for Grade 8

  • Slope is the change in y divided by the change in x: rise over run.
  • In a right triangle, a squared plus b squared equals c squared, and c is the longest side.
  • In the Math Practice test, use simplest form when a question asks for it: 6/8 becomes 3/4.
  • In Reading, an argument question asks whether the reasons support the claim, not whether you agree with it.
  • In Language, passive voice puts the doer last or leaves it out: "The window was broken by the ball."
