Free NWEA MAP Growth practice test for Grade 6Math 6+, Reading 6+ and Language 2+

Grade 6 is the first year of Math 6+ and Reading 6+, and Language 2+ goes on for schools that give it. Math covers ratios and rates, dividing fractions, negative numbers and the four quadrants of the coordinate plane, writing and solving expressions and equations, area, surface area and volume, and dot plots, box plots, mean and median. Reading has longer stories, myths, poems and plays, with speeches and essays beside the nonfiction, and asks about theme, point of view and how an author backs up a claim. Language adds I or me and he or him, words such as myself, pronouns that are unclear, and commas or parentheses around extra information. A few questions in each go above Grade 6.

Tips

Getting ready for Grade 6

  • For a ratio question, write the two amounts in the order the question names them.
  • On a number line, numbers get smaller to the left, so -5 is less than -2.
  • In the Math Practice test, some answers are typed: write a fraction as 3/4 and a negative number with a minus sign.
  • In Reading, a theme is a lesson about life in a full sentence, not a one-word topic.
  • In Language, say the sentence with the pronoun alone: "I went" works and "me went" does not, so it is "Sam and I went."
