CogAT practiceScreener
The CogAT Screener
The Screener is the short form of the CogAT. It takes one part from each of the three batteries, so it is about a third of the full test, around 30 minutes. Some districts give it to every child in a grade, then invite the children who score well to sit the full CogAT or another test.
What is on it
Three parts, one from each battery
Verbal analogies
Two words that go together, then a third word: pick the word that goes with it in the same way. Up to Grade 2 this is picture analogies, with no reading.
Number analogies
Two pairs of numbers that follow one rule, then a third number: pick the number the rule makes. Up to Grade 2 the numbers are groups of things to count.
Figure matrices
A grid of shapes that change in the same way across each row: pick the shape that finishes the grid.
These are the same three parts as in the full test, at the same length. Up to Grade 2 every question is read aloud and there is no time limit.

Screener or full test?
Ask your school which one your child will sit, at which level, and whether it is online or on paper. If it is the Screener, practice the three parts above. If your child goes on to the full test, the other six parts are in the practice room too.
