NAPLANYear 9

NAPLAN Year 9 practice tests

Year 9 is the last NAPLAN your child sits. Practise all four tests here: timed reading, numeracy and language conventions, and a typed writing task that comes back marked.

What to expect

What is different about Year 9

  • The last NAPLAN

Year 9 is the final sitting. The tests are the same shape as Year 7's, with harder texts and more algebra in the maths.

  • A calculator for most of numeracy

Year 9 numeracy opens with a short part where calculators are not allowed, then a calculator is allowed for the rest. Our Year 9 papers open the same way.

  • Writing is typed

All four tests are on screen, and the writing task is typed. Planning the piece before typing it is the habit that pays most.

Past papers

Year 9 NAPLAN past papers

ACARA, the body that runs NAPLAN, has released real Year 9 papers from 2012 to 2016 only. They were written for the old paper test, and nothing later is released. Its demonstration site shows the on-screen format, but gives no answers.

Use them to see the style of question, then use timed papers with answers to practise.
