NAPLANYear 7

NAPLAN Year 7 practice tests

Year 7 NAPLAN is usually the first one at secondary school. Practise all four tests here: timed reading, numeracy and language conventions, and a typed writing task that comes back marked.

What to expect

What is different about Year 7

  • A new school, the same test

Year 7 NAPLAN usually falls early in secondary school, at a new school with new routines. The format is the one your child met in Year 5, pitched two years on.

  • A calculator for most of numeracy

Year 7 numeracy opens with a short part where calculators are not allowed, then a calculator is allowed for the rest. Our Year 7 papers open the same way.

  • Writing is typed

All four tests are on screen. The writing task is typed, so typing speed matters as much as handwriting did in Year 3.

Past papers

Year 7 NAPLAN past papers

ACARA, the body that runs NAPLAN, has released real Year 7 papers from 2012 to 2016 only. They were written for the old paper test, and nothing later is released. Its demonstration site shows the on-screen format, but gives no answers.

Use them to see the style of question, then use timed papers with answers to practise.
