NAPLANYear 5

NAPLAN Year 5 practice tests

Practise for Year 5 NAPLAN in the format your child will sit: timed reading, numeracy and language conventions on screen, and a typed writing task that comes back marked against ACARA's criteria.

What to expect

What is different about Year 5

  • Everything is on screen

All four tests are sat on a computer or tablet at Year 5, including writing, which is typed rather than handwritten.

  • No calculator

Year 5 numeracy is worked out without a calculator, so mental and written methods carry the whole test.

  • Often the year before scholarship tests

Many families sit scholarship or selective entry tests a year or so after Year 5 NAPLAN. The skills overlap, but the papers are not the same shape.

Past papers

Year 5 NAPLAN past papers

ACARA, the body that runs NAPLAN, has released real Year 5 papers from 2012 to 2016 only. They were written for the old paper test, and nothing later is released. Its demonstration site shows the on-screen format, but gives no answers.

Use them to see the style of question, then use timed papers with answers to practise.
