The Moon Rides Home
When we drive home from Grandma's house late on a Sunday night, the moon comes too. It never stops. It keeps us in its sight. It peeks above the gas station, it hides behind a tree, it races past the river bridge and waits up there for me. It slips behind a cloud, and then comes shining out once more, as if it wants to make quite sure we find our own front door. I ask my dad, "Why does the moon keep following our car?" He says it only seems to move because it is so far. But when I climb the stairs to bed and peek out at the night, the moon is resting on our roof, a round and silver light.
