Questions parents ask
- Are these real school exam papers?
- No. Every question is written by us, to MOE's Mathematics syllabus for each level. School papers belong to the schools that set them. Scholar Tests is not connected with MOE, SEAB or any school.
- Which format do the papers follow?
- Schools set their own exam papers, and MOE publishes no format below the PSLE. Our Primary 3 and 4 papers go from multiple choice to short answers to longer problems, with no calculator. Primary 5 and 6 follow the PSLE's two papers, Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with one, so the shape your child practises is the one they will sit at the PSLE. The PSLE Foundation paper follows SEAB's Foundation Mathematics format, on the Foundation topics only. Secondary 1 and 2 have two papers too, Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with one, where answers that are not exact are given to 3 significant figures. Secondary 3 and 4 follow the O-Level E-Math papers' times and marks, 2 hours 15 minutes and 90 marks each, with a calculator in both. G2 and G1 Mathematics follow SEAB's SEC formats: G2 is 2 hours and 70 marks a paper, with Paper 2's Section B a choice of one of two questions, and G1 is 1 hour 30 minutes and 50 marks a paper. The A-Math papers follow the O-Level A-Math times and marks too: Paper 1 marked on screen, Paper 2 written and marked by you against a model answer.
- How are the papers marked?
- On the final answer. A school paper can give a mark for the right method in a longer problem; a typed answer cannot show working, so have your child write it on paper and check it against the answer.
- Is it free?
- A free account includes 3 practice tests. The Singapore pack (S$99 for 6 months) opens unlimited tests and shows the right answer and the working for every question.
- When should my child sit them?
- Any time in the year, and most of all in the weeks before the mid-year and end-of-year exams. One timed paper a week, with every wrong answer gone over, does more than several rushed ones.
