Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad

SASMO-style practice for every grade

A new paper every time for Primary 1 to JC 2, in SASMO's format: 15 multiple-choice questions, then 10 that take a typed whole number, marked the way SASMO marks them.

The pattern

SectionQuestionsAnswerMarks
A15Multiple choice2 for a right answer, 1 off for a wrong one, 0 for a blank
B10Non-routine questions4 for a right answer, nothing off

Grades 1 to 12 have 90 minutes for 25 questions, each grade on its own paper. Everyone starts with 15 marks, so the paper is out of 85. Our papers cover Grades 1 to 10 one paper a grade, plus one paper for Grades 11 and 12 (JC 1 and 2), and on them each Section B answer is a whole number from 0 to 9999 that your child types. Questions parents ask

What is SASMO?
The Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad, run by SIMCC since 2006. Schools in Singapore hold it in March and April, and students in about 50 countries and territories sit it.
What topics does it test?
Arithmetic and statistics, geometry and measurement, word problems solved with the model method, and non-routine problems: number patterns, divisibility, spatial puzzles such as cube nets and painted cubes, logic and simple cryptarithms. The Secondary 3 and 4 papers go further: indices and surds, gradients, inequalities, absolute values, trig signs, probability and binomial coefficients.
Why does a wrong answer lose a mark?
In Section A a wrong answer takes 1 mark off, so a wild guess can cost more than a blank. Our papers mark the same way, so your child practises deciding when to leave a question.
Which grade should my child sit?
The paper for their own school level: Primary 4 sits the Grade 4 paper. Secondary 1 is Grade 7 and Secondary 4 is Grade 10.
Do you have Grade 11 and 12 papers?
Yes, one paper for both, as SIMCC publishes no Grade 11 or 12 paper for us to tell them apart. It covers series, vectors, calculus, complex numbers, conditional chance and counting, in SASMO's format and with no calculator.
Is this the real SASMO paper?
No. Every question is written by Scholar Tests. We are not connected with SIMCC or SASMO, and nothing is copied from a past paper.
Is it free?
A free account includes 3 practice tests. The Singapore pack (S$99 for 6 months) opens unlimited tests and shows the right answer and the working for every question.
