Melbourne Grammar scholarship test practice

Melbourne Grammar's scholarship test is set by Academic Assessment Services (AAS). Many prep guides still say ACER; the school's own application now runs through AAS. Its exam for Year 7 entry is sat earlier than most schools' tests, so check the sitting year on the school's page.

  • Entry yearsYears 7 and 9 entryThe years the school names for its academic scholarships. Its own page gives the year each test is sat in.

The paper

What the AAS paper asks

Mathematics

40 questions in 40 minutes. Up to five options, no calculator.

General Reasoning

60 questions in 40 minutes: verbal, figural and spatial. Fast: about 40 seconds each.

Reading Comprehension

40 questions in 40 minutes: six texts, including poetry and advertising.

Question counts are estimates. AAS publishes a 40–50 minute limit for each test and no per-section question count, so the counts above, and the mix within each section, come from sample papers rather than from AAS.

Schools on a shortlist often use different boards. If your child is sitting for more than one, check each school's board.
