Questions parents ask
- Which ICAS paper does my child sit in New Zealand?
- The one ICAS sets for their New Zealand year: the Introductory paper in Year 3, Paper A in Year 4, and so on to Paper H in Year 11. Each paper is written for the Australian year one below, because New Zealand children start Year 1 a year earlier.
- Why does the app show a different year?
- The app lists each paper under its Australian year, so a Year 5 child in New Zealand finds Paper B under Year 4. The paper is the same. The links on this page open the right one for your child's New Zealand year.
- How do we enter ICAS?
- Most children enter through their school, which runs the tests online in the sitting window. If your school does not take part, ICAS Assessments can tell you how to enter your child yourself, and this year's dates and fees.
- Which subjects can my child practise here?
- Mathematics, English and Science, from the Introductory paper to Paper H. ICAS also runs Writing, Spelling Bee and Digital Technologies, which are not covered here.
- Are these real ICAS papers?
- No. Every question is written by Scholar Tests in the ICAS format, and we are not connected with ICAS Assessments. ICAS sells its own past papers.
- Is it free?
- A free account includes 3 practice tests. The ICAS pack (NZ$109 for 6 months) opens unlimited tests and shows the right answer and the working for every question.
