For Grade 3 students in Ontario
EQAO Grade 3 practice
Every Grade 3 student in Ontario's public schools writes EQAO's Primary Division assessment online in May or June: reading and writing in four sessions of about 35 minutes, and math in four stages of about 30 minutes. It does not count toward report card marks; each part is reported as a level from 1 to 4.
Our EQAO-style practice has both halves of the math, two reading sessions' worth of texts and questions, and the multiple-choice writing questions, all new every time a session starts and all in Canadian English. The real test also asks for written answers that teachers mark; our questions are all marked straight away, so they leave those out.

Questions
What parents ask
- Are these real EQAO questions?
- No. We write our own questions on the Grade 3 curriculum. EQAO's own sample test is free on its website, and we suggest trying it too.
- Does the Grade 3 assessment count?
- No. The results do not go into report card marks. Schools and families use them to see how a student is doing against the provincial standard.
- When is it written?
- In May or June, on dates the school sets inside EQAO's window.
- Can my child use a calculator?
- Yes, in math. The real test has one built in, so use one for our practice too.
- Is it free?
- A free account includes 3 practice tests to write. The EQAO pack (CA$69) opens unlimited practice at Grades 3, 6 and 9, with which questions were right, the right answers and a worked solution for each.
